CRTC Nixes CIHS Bid For More Power, New Format

The CRTC has denied the application by TAG BROADCASTING's 902890 ALBERTA LTD. to upgrade its Religion-Country CIHS/WETASKIWIN, AB by increasing the power and changing from a Class A to Class B station, and changing its format.
The station sought to increase from 5,120 watts to 50,000 watts and to flip to a format split between folk, world music (South Asian), and pop music. The Commission said that the South Asian programming proposal failed to show a large enough population to justify the change, and that the technical changes were for financial purposes and would "extend the station’s contours too far beyond its principal marketing area."
