The WWRS 2013 Mission: Continue to move radio and your careers forward!
TECHSURVEY9 goes to the field on JANUARY 28th -- so act now to be part of it by clicking here.
TECHSURVEY9 is a national web poll about media and technology utilizing radio station databases. Last year, the survey was opened to all formats and ended up creating the largest research study ever conducted for radio. It was a breakthrough study that has been presented to thousands of broadcasters throughout the U.S., CANADA and the world.
A total of 170 radio stations across NORTH AMERICA participated in TECHSURVEY9, generating 57,300+ interviews and providing data for 12 different radio formats, from Top 40 to Country to News/Talk to Classic Rock. The goal for TS9 is 300 stations with even more format and audience diversity and will be presented at the WORLDWIDE RADIO SUMMIT at noon, on FRIDAY, MAY 3rd.
What You Will Learn From Techsurvey9 ... Plenty!
Techsurvey9 research topics will track the following:
*Traditional media usage (TV, radio)
*Market size/geography -- does it make a difference
*Usage cross-tabbed across Boomers vs. Millennials vs. Gen Xers
*How do listeners consume station content across other devices, platforms
*TV -- and how radio can take advantage of it
*Traditional listening vs streams and multitasking
*New and social media (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.)
*Gadgets (smartphones, tablets, etc.).
*Station related activities
*Best content for Facebook pages, streaming, website, and podcasting.
*Is Pandora trending up or down and how is it impacting radio usage?
*How are your listeners engaging your station with social media?
*Deeper dive into apps -- what they've downloaded, what they use, and how they use them.
JACOBS MEDIA Pres. FRED JACOBS noted, "We will also be looking at whether market size and geography are difference-makers in how listeners use new media and gadgets. Other new areas include multi-screen media habits, mobile device usage and its impact on media, and how consumers are multi-tasking and how radio fits in.
"The goal of this study is to provide radio with a media usage hierarchy to help stations better prioritize where they commit their money, staff and resources. Our Media Usage Pyramids for local stations, the 12 formats, and total audience (below) are hanging up in hundreds of cubicles, offices, and air studios throughout the U.S. and CANADA. This is information that every programmer and manager should have to best meet the challenges and benefit from the opportunities of new media and technology."
Techsurvey9 -- How Do I Get My Station Or Cluster Involved?

Stations Have Two Options For Participating In TS9
1. A small participation fee for local station data. JACOBS will survey your database (up to 600 completed interviews). You'll receive your local market data, the total survey data, your format data, and your station's media usage pyramid. You will also be able to participate in a free participants-only webinar that reviews the key findings this spring. Anyone from your station is eligible to attend.
Rates are held steady from TS8:
Top 20 markets: $500
Markets 21-50: $400
Markets 51+: $300
2. No participation fee. If you elect to not pay the fee, we still very much want you to participate in the study. While you will not receive local data or a media usage pyramid for your station, you will be provided with an infographic that summarizes the survey's key national findings, as well as participation in the webinar.
JACOBS also offer discounts for additional cluster or company stations, so please check to see if you qualify. Head to the TECHSURVEY9 site for more info.
