The PAUL FINEBAUM saga continues with the veteran BIRMINGHAM-based syndicated sports host's disappearance from CUMULUS Sports WJOX/BIRMINGHAM TODAY (1/22) after the expiration of his contract. The BIRMINGHAM NEWS reports that FINEBAUM has been replaced in his afternoon slot with the midday "JOX ROUNDTABLE" with RYAN BROWN, JIM DUNAWAY and LANCE TAYLOR.
FINEBAUM and the station, under CITADEL and CUMULUS management, have been at odds over his contract for some time, with a protracted legal dispute settled last JULY. It has been widely speculated that FINEBAUM will end up at crosstown COX MEDIA GROUP Sports WZNN (97.3 THE ZONE), with NASHVILLE-based sportswriter and radio personality CLAY TRAVIS going as far as to report that FINEBAUM will be joining THE ZONE and will be accompanied by WJOX PD RYAN HANEY, who would become PD at THE ZONE, but the NEWS reports that FINEBAUM has a three-month local noncompete and "is still exploring his options," which may include national work for ESPN RADIO or CBS SPORTS RADIO.
