With BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE's acquittal on defamation charges YESTERDAY (NET NEWS, 1/30), it's all over but the gloating. TAMPABAY.COM reports that BUBBA "THE LOVE SPONGE" CLEM launched this morning's show with a parody song containing lyrics such as "I could use your lawsuit to fertilize my lawn," before celebrating his court victory for the rest of the air shift.
Clem reveled in his victory with the rest of his morning team, his lawyer and an unidentified woman who they said served on the jury. Although the principals in the trial were court-ordered not to contact jurors, BUBBA noted it was legal for jurors to call him -- and suggested they do so. The woman juror who did -- her voice altered and identified as "JANE DOE" -- said, "I actually don't think you did anything wrong."
"I think I out-legalled them," BUBBA said. "The thought we were trying to convey was about the 1st Amendment, and I think the jury got it. The system worked; it really did."
In an on-air press conference with members of the local media, CLEM admitted that "he was nervous as the jury deliberated WEDNESDAY," and that "he and WHPT owner COX RADIO likely spent 'close to $2 million' over the life of the lawsuit, saying he was nearly bankrupted funding his defense."
Apparently, BUBBA has no plans to let go of the episode in the immediate future, as he talked of hosting a mock funeral for the plaintiff, TODD SCHNITT, and expects to re-tell his story on HOWARD STERN's satellite radio show. He also indicated that he might bring his show back to satellite radio.
