Larry Wert Named President Of Tribune's Local TV, Radio Stations

CHICAGO broadcast management veteran LARRY WERT has been named President of TRIBUNE COMPANY's local broadcasting businesses, including Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO and 23 local television stations, effective "in the near future." He will report directly to Tribune’s CEO PETER LIGUORI; current TRIBUNE BROADCASTING President NILS LARSEN "will assist WERT in the transition to his new position with TRIBUNE," according to a press release.
WERT, most recently EVP/Station Initiatives for the NBC owned-and-operated television stations, was President and GM of EVERGREEN Rock WLUP-F (THE LOOP) and Talk WLUP-A (AM 1000)/CHICAGO in 1989 through 1996, when he became President of EVERGREEN MEDIA and then SVP of CHANCELLOR MEDIA after its merger with EVERGREEN. He then became President/GM of NBC O&O WMAQ-TV (NBC 5)CHICAGO in 1998, and was upped to President, Central & Western Region, NBC LOCAL MEDIA in 2008, overseeing NBC O&Os KNBC (TV) (NBC 4)/LOS ANGELES, KNTV (NBC 11)/SAN JOSE-SAN FRANCISCO, KNSD-TV (NBC 7/39)/SAN DIEGO, KXAS-TV (NBC 5)/DALLAS-FT. WORTH, and WMAQ.
