As ALL ACCESS previously reported (NET NEWS 2/15), CLEAR CHANNEL Country WSIX/ NASHVILLE held a press conference at the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM at 12p (CT) TODAY (2/19) to introduce PREMIERE RADIO NETWORKS’ new syndicated Country morning show, "THE BOBBY BONES SHOW."
WSIX afternoon personality THE ANTMAN welcomed those in attendance (that included a combination of radio personnel, media, record label executives and artists such as JAKE OWEN, KRISTEN KELLY, JANA KRAMER, CRAIG CAMPBELL, JON PARDI, BRETT ELDREDGE, GREG BATES, PARMALEE, JOE NICHOLS, GLORIANA, THE FARM, ERIC PASLAY, DUSTIN LYNCH, CHRIS JANSON, JOSH THOMPSON, JOEL CROUSE and CHARLIE WORSHAM) with a comical video of ARISTA NASHVILLE artist BRAD PAISLEY dressed as a superhero, announcing that he will be the first guest on MONDAY’s (2/25) show. BONES has been broadcasting from NASHVILLE locally since MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18th; however the syndicated program will hit 35 nationwide markets on FEBRUARY 25th.
WSIX midday personality AMY PAIGE then took the stage to introduce the entire BOBBY BONES cast, and moderate a Q&A session with the audience. Making a point to describe their show as being "just regular people," BONES explained how he began working with each of the crew. He described AMY as his "Number 2" and said that he had met her at a restaurant. Before joining the show, neither she nor co-host LUNCHBOX had ever worked in broadcasting. LUNCHBOX and BOBBY met at a bar where the sidekick was a delivery person for a deli while working through college. LUNCHBOX quit college with only 3 credit hours left, to join "THE BOBBY BONES SHOW."
Other members of "THE BOBBY BONES SHOW" include Assistant Producer RAY who began as an intern with the show, as did Executive Producer ALAINA. EDDIE, a television producer, will produce visual media content during each show. All six of the members have relocated to NASHVILLE from their former home base at KHFI/AUSTIN.
During the Q&A session, BOBBY BONES said that his goal for the show is for it not to be done like a typical morning radio show. That is why he chose co-hosts with no radio experience. He wanted the content to be "real" and not scripted or forced. He feels their show will sound more true-to-life for listeners. BONES also said that their objective will be to make people laugh.
"THE BOBBY BONES SHOW" will skew to a younger demographic, relating to the new generation of Country listeners. Each member of the show is very young, with BONES himself being born in the 1980’s. His age, coupled with his Top 40 radio background, left some in the audience to ask how he will transition into the Country format, and if he prefers Country music overall. BOBBY repeatedly mentioned how Country music was actually his first preference to work in. Being raised by his grandmother in ARKANSAS, BOBBY initially applied to work at a Country radio station, but was rejected. He then applied to a Top 40 station by default and was hired. He said that he initially hated Top 40, but grew to love it over the years. He added that he has always loved Country and now feels much more comfortable.
BONES said that his Country show will not change very much from what listeners have heard him do in the Top 40 format. The reason being, the people involved with his proram are all the same, and the show itself has always been focused on just being themselves.
During the press conference, BOBBY BONES said that his strategy for winning over the Country audience is to not specifically set out to prove anything. He wants to simply bring the environment that is outside, onto the air. This strategy was displayed locally on WSIX this MORNING (2/19) when a listener called into the show with negative feedback. BONES aired the call regardless. He plans to keep his show real, "with warts and all," he said.
In addition to being available on iHEARTRADIO, "THE BOBBY BONES SHOW" will air from 5-10a (CT) each weekday on 35 CLEAR CHANNEL stations including WFUS/TAMPA-ST. PETERSBURG, KSD/ST. LOUIS, WCKY/FINDLAY, OH, KWNR/LAS VEGAS, KASE/AUSTIN, WCKT/FT.MEYERS-NAPLES,FL, KNST/TUCSON, KTGX/TULSA, KBQI/ALBUQUERQUE, KHEY/EL PASO, KTOM/MONTEREY-SALINAS, CA, WAVW/FT.
