Former BROWN UNIVERSITY Alternative WBRU/PROVIDENCE has found a new adventure -- launching the nation's first Food Tourism Conference. The conference is tentatively scheduled to take place on the weekend of SEPTEMBER 20th-22nd in PROVIDENCE.
The event will allow passionate foodies to sample cuisines from different cities, learn about the culinary history of different regions, and gain practical tips for planning their own food-based adventures.
Celebrated Chef MATT JENNINGS of PROVIDENCE’S FARMSTEAD will deliver the keynote address at the conference, which will also feature a cocktail reception, a tasting pavilion, a food truck court, and group dinners all around the city.
The reason the conference is "tentatively" scheduled is that its debut isn’t guaranteed. "It’s our first year, so we need to raise the capital to host this event," RESLER said. He has launched a crowdfunding campaign through the popular website KICKSTARTER.COM. Food lovers have until the end of MARCH to pledge monetary support for the event in the hopes of making it a reality. By doing so, they can earn rewards like tickets to the event, spots on a walking culinary tour, and city food guides.
"Our goal is to raise enough money for the first conference, and then generate the revenue from it to keep producing the event year after year. Eventually, we want to produce similar events in different cities around the country," RESLER said.
