SCOTT GINSBURG, one of the principals who merged EVERGREEN MEDIA with CHANCELLOR BROADCASTING only to sell the properties to CLEAR CHANNEL, is suing GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY for donations he made to the university's law center, THE DALLAS NEWS reports. GINSBURG donated approximately $7.5 million essentially for naming rights to a new Health and Fitness Center; 12 years later, the center has been built -- but GINSBURG's name or presence is nowhere to be seen on campus.
Apparently, the University refused to put his name on the building because he as busted by the SEC for insider trading. In 2002, then-GEORGETOWN LAW CENTER Dean JUDITH AREEN sent a thank-you-for-donation note that also suggested they re-do the deal and withhold the naming rights until the SEC issue was off the front pages. She also promised to revisit the deal "if the jury verdict is overturned."
GINSBURG refused the change the original agreement and eventually filed suit to get his donations back.
