Tornado Knocks WMEL Off Air
March 25, 2013 at 2:56 PM (PT)
RAMA COMMUNICATIONS/JOHN HARPER Talk WMEL-A/COCOA BEACH-MELBOURNE, FL is off the air due to damage from a tornado that ripped the station's roof off on the west wing of its building. The tornado hit SUNDAY at 3:30p (ET) and caused rain to come into the building. In addition, power fluctuations damaged the transmitter's power supply.
The station is streaming online while repairs are made; restoration of the broadcast signal depends on when a replacement transmitter can be shipped and installed, estimated at about TUESDAY or WEDNESDAY.
