WWGR Morning Show Suspended Over April Fools Joke
April 5, 2013 at 7:19 AM (PT)
RENDA BROADCASTING Country WWGR (GATOR COUNTRY 101.9)/FT. MYERS, FL morning personalities VAL ST. JOHN and SCOTT FISH have been suspended indefinitely following an APRIL FOOLS joke that played out on the air.
According to the LEE COUNTY NEWS-PRESS, the morning show announced to listeners that "dihydrogen monoxide" was coming from resident’s faucets. Concerned listeners began to flood the utility company with calls, asking if their water was safe.
"It is one thing when radio stations change their format or other crazy things they do, but you are messing with one of the big three -- food, water or shelter. They just went too far," said station GM, TONY RENDA.
"Dihydrogen monoxide" is actually a technical term for water.
Update: the pair returned to the air on WEDNESDAY (4/3) after a one-day suspension.
