The FEDERATION FOR AMERICAN IMMIGRATION REFORM's annual "Hold Their Feet to the Fire" radio row event this week drew significant attention from the news media as it coincides with the push for a bipartisan ("Gang of Eight") immigration reform bill many of the radio hosts deride as an amnesty package.
POLITICO followed Sen. MARCO RUBIO (R-FL) through interviews with radio hosts (MIKE) SIEGEL, RUSTY HUMPHRIES, MICHAEL BROWN and LARS LARSON, describing how the hosts didn't buy RUBIO's plan, saying that "they will lead the fight against the Gang of Eight’s plan."
Looking at the event from the perspective of hosts seeing public opinion shifting away from their position, THE NEW YORK TIMES cited reactions from hosts including JAMES CRYSTAL RADIO Talk WFTL-A/FORT LAUDERDALE-WEST PALM BEACH's JOYCE KAUFMAN, CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFYI-A/PHOENIX's JIM SHARPE, and CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WRNO (RUSH RADIO 99.5)/NEW ORLEANS' DENNY SCHAFFER.
