PUBLIC RADIO INTERNATIONAL has launched a crowdfunding campaign on INDIEGOGO to raise $25,000 for its Global Reporting Fund to provide coverage of 11 stories for "PRI'S THE WORLD."
In its pitch for donations, PRI explains, "Media coverage about issues of special concern to women - such as gender-based violence and women's economic participation - make up less than 1.5% of news worldwide. At PRI, these stories make up least 5% of our coverage. Immigration is rarely addressed apart from public policy and political rhetoric. At PRI, we highlight the voices of first-and second-generation immigrants who tell their stories of making a life in the U.S. More people die from cancer in low and middle-income countries than from TB, HIV, AIDS, and malaria combined. At PRI, our Global Health and Development coverage highlights disease and healthcare in other countries." The funds would go to "Support the production of in-depth reporting by providing critical resources for journalists in the field; Fund the placement of award-winning journalists in critical locations, to cover important stories, worldwide; (and) Enable the editing, promotion, and distribution of PRI’s content via radio, podcast and multiple digital platforms."
Among the premiums for donations are a written thank you" for $10, an MP3 of the theme to "THE WORLD" for $25, $50 for a "web salute" and tape of behind-the=scenes marerial, a Twitter follow for a year by the PRI account and by PRI President and CEO ALISA MILLER plus regional footage for $100, an autographed map of the world for $250, a signed book for $500, and the "MARCO WERMAN Special" for $1,000, a personalized iTUNES playlist by the show host and an iTUNES gift card to buy the music.
