The WALL STREET JOURNAL and POLITICO are reporting that President OBAMA will nominate CORE CAPITAL PARTNERS Managing Director TOM WHEELER to replace the departing JULIUS GENACHOWSKI as Chairman of the FCC. WHEELER, a venture capitalist and lobbyist for the wireless and cable industries who was widely assumed to be the frontrunner for the position when GENACHOWSKI's departure became known, could be nominated as soon as TOMORROW (5/1).
A source told the JOURNAL that Commissioner MIGNON CLYBURN will serve as interim Chair until WHEELER, a former NCTA and CTIA lobbyist, is confirmed by the Senate.
NAB President and CEO GORDON SMITH said, "NAB welcomes the nomination of TOM WHEELER as chairman of the FCC. He has the experience and temperament to serve the agency with distinction, and we look forward to working with him."
