LINCOLN FINANCIAL MEDIA Classic Hits WMXJ (MAGIC 102.7)/MIAMI attracted a crowd of over 7,000 for its "Love In Party in the Park" at GREYNOLDS PARK in NORTH MIAMI BEACH featuring GRAND FUNK RAILROAD and MIKE PINERA's BLUES IMAGE, an event 45 years in the making.
Back in 1968 GREYNOLDS PARK was where "Hippies that Staged a Love In in NORTH MIAMI," as the papers reported. Guitarist MIKE PINERA, performing with BLUES IMAGE, described it as "just like church." Just when things were about to end, the papers reported that "a six-man combo from SAN FRANCISCO called THE GRATEFUL DEAD climbed onto the stage and added cool sounds to the Love In."
This year, THE GRATEFUL DEAD was replaced at the Love In with GRAND FUNK RAILROAD.
Also of note, MAGIC 102.7 afternoon radio personality RON ST. JOHN was honored with a proclamation which officially made MAY 5th, 2013 "RON ST. JOHN Day" by MIAMI DADE COUNTY Commissioner SALLY HEYMAN. RON ST. JOHN will retire from the MIAMI radio airwaves and MAGIC 102.7 later this month after 48 years on the air (27 years on WMXJ).
