Mike Elder Discusses Departure From Fox News Radio

FOX NEWS RADIO VP/Programming MIKE ELDER quietly departed the network at the end of APRIL after nearly eight years, and the veteran of over 40 years in radio now tells ALL ACCESS that the move "was an amicable parting of the ways. My contract was up, cuts were being made to the staff, and we both agreed to move on. And this was the longest tenure of a more than 40-year career, so I was living on borrowed time anyway."
"This has been one of the best jobs I've had, or that radio still had," ELDER added. "KEVIN (MAGEE) and BOB (FINNERTY) were very supportive of our efforts and our channel on SIRIUSXM as well as Internet and affiliates. They allowed me to put together a great staff and I appreciate their support over the past eight years."
As for his future plans, ELDER, whose resume includes stops at stations like WRKO-A/BOSTON, WLS-A/CHICAGO, WCCO-A/MINNEAPOLIS, KMBZ-A and KCMO-A/KANSAS CITY, and KTOK-A/OKLAHOMA CITY, said, "I'll relocate to BOSTON as a base since I won a condo there. And it's close to NEW YORK CITY, which is my favorite city to live and work in. My strengths as a programmer have always been to hire extremely talented people, and get out of their way, giving direction to add cohesiveness to a station. And I'm great as a talent coach, not to mention being a great manager and building relationships with my staff. Since I've been in talk radio, I can't think of a single person who's been on my time that wouldn't go the extra distance for me because of our mutual respect. Unfortunately, not many people are looking for any of those particular traits/talents in today's world of radio.
"I still feel I have another gig left in me, so (I'm) not shutting the door on radio. And would welcome the chance to work with great talent and production staffs again. But I'm open to something new as well. There is a whole new world on the Internet that will require content, and not the same ole same ole. I'd love to work on something new, exciting, challenging and dynamic that would allow me to put my over 40 years of experience and skills to use in a new and different way."
