Congrats to CBS RADIO Top 40/Rhythmic KLUC/LAS VEGAS OM/PD CAT THOMAS, who celebrates 25 years at the station TODAY (6/21).
THOMAS joined KLUC back in 1988 as the flame throwing night jock from FLORIDA. moving to afternoons, MD, APD, and then took over as PD in 1996. To put his time at KLUC into terms (that might make everyone feel old) he has seen GEORGE H.W. BUSH, BILL CLINTON, GEORGE W. BUSH and BARACK OBAMA as our Presidents. There was no social media outlet other than the request line. In fact, MARK ZUCKERBURG was four years old! The number one song was DEBBIE GIBSON's "Foolish Beat," and the first song that he played on KLUC was "Ain’t Nothing but a Good Time" by POISON. The population of the LAS VEGAS metropolitan area was just over 500,000 -- and now it's close to two million.
CBS RADIO SVP/LAS VEGAS Market Manager JERRY MCKENNA said, "98.5 KLUC is as iconic to the LAS VEGAS landscape as the BELLAGIO fountains or the EIFFEL TOWER in PARIS. For 25 years, the creative and passionate force behind KLUC's success has been CAT THOMAS. Having the opportunity of working with him for the past several years has been a wonderful experience. He's the best!"
"I could say that I’m humbled to have worked with such an amazing staff over the years. I’ve been able to fulfill mine and my family’s dreams working for a company that I respect and love. Sure I could say that it’s been a hell of a lot of fun, and I can’t imagine doing what I love anywhere else. All that is true but let’s face facts, I’m not qualified to do anything else in life, and they promised me cake if I made it this long! I would also like to thank a ton of people, but after 25 years, the list is too long, and you don’t have enough print space. So, if you know me personally, I owe you thanks, because in some way you have had an influence on my success!" said THOMAS.
