BONNEVILLE Talk KIRO-F/SEATTLE is ensuring that local radio legend PAT O'DAY will be heard during SEAFAIR weekend after all despite his being dropped from his longtime post calling the annual hydroplane races by COX MEDIA GROUP CBS affiliate KIRO-TV (unrelated to KIRO radio) this year.
KIRO's website MYNORTHWEST.COM reports that O'DAY, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year but has recovered , will host a one-hour hydroplane race special on the radio station; he has been broadcasting the races on radio or television for 45 years, most recently alongside STEVE RAIBLE and CHIP HANAUER since 2005, but the TV station's management decided to drop him. KIRO-F's afternoon RON AND DON SHOW arranged for O'DAY to do the special.
"PAT is a SEATTLE broadcasting legend, and we're really excited to share his longtime experience being the voice of SEAFAIR on our airwaves," said RON AND DON's DON O'NEILL. "PAT talking about the hydros has been a part of our community for many years and we're not ready for that to end."
"It's been my joy to make contributions to the sport, but above all to make a contribution to our great, treasured festival called SEAFAIR," said O'DAY. "I feel very lucky to have been omnipresent in that whole thing for 46 years and am looking forward to sharing my perspective with KIRO radio listeners."
