KTSO Drops Classic Hits For Lite Rock
July 1, 2013 at 6:02 AM (PT)
KTSO/TULSA flipped to a new Lite AC format this morning at 6a with MICHAEL BUBLE’s "Everything" marking the new format, followed by welcoming remarks from morning host ERIC STEINER. The move comes as STEPHENS MEDIA GROUP officially takes over the radio station, along with KMYZ (Z104.5 THE EDGE), with the official acquisition of the two stations from SHAMROCK COMMUNICATIONS soon to follow.
"94.1 THE BREEZE is not the adult contemporary station of previous generations," said STEPHENS MEDIA GROUP National PD BOB THORNTON. "Our focus is on the listener experience and not gimmicky promises that only radio people understand. We want this station to be a vibrant part of the community and deeply personal for our listeners."
Current artists like JOSH GROBAN, ONE REPUBLIC and MICHAEL BUBLE will air next to favorites like CELINE DION, ROD STEWART and JOURNEY. "There’s definitely a void in TULSA for a contemporary radio station created for adult women," said station owner DAVID STEPHENS. "We’re making a significant marketing investment to launch THE BREEZE, and as more and more people tune in, I believe they will realize 94.1 THE BREEZE as being a breath of fresh air for TULSA radio."
Middays are being handled part-time by TERESE TAYLOR, who worked for STEPHENS previously at WRMM (WARM 101.3)/ROCHESTER, NY while afternoons are hosted by DOUG HANNAH. The current staff is subject to change as THORNTON searches for a full-time staff. "We are looking for all positions and all dayparts- a great morning team, middays, afternoons, evenings, APD, promotions, imaging, production, weekends- we need great people in every position and we are hiring!"
Airchecks and resumes can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Changes Across The Hall
Speaking of hiring, THORNTON says some recent attrition has left him short-handed across the hall at KMYZ. "A couple of DJ’s left SHAMROCK before we took over, so we are currently searching for a great afternoon and evening host for Z104.5 THE EDGE."
The KMYZ "Morning Edge" will debut on JULY 15th with 18 year EDGE veteran CHUCK STIKL and new partner BOBBY BUTLER. BUTLER has also been named APD. DREW MCKENNA will continue to host middays. Music calls are being handled by NIK RIVERS at sister station WZNE/ROCHESTER, NY until a full-time MD can be named. A new EDGE website will debut later this month as well.
THORNTON is also requesting AC and Alternative music service from all major labels. You can reach him at email@example.com.
