Rumors Of Changes Swirl Around WMGC

ALL ACCESS has been hearing rumors from multiple sources that something may be up at GREATER MEDIA AC WMGC (TODAY'S 105.1)/DETROIT, and the leading rumor is a flip to Sports to take on CBS RADIO Sports WXYT-F (97.1 THE TICKET).
The rumors suggest that the station will carry ESPN RADIO, and, sure enough, crosstown BIRACH Sports WCAR-A, which had been the ESPN affiliate for the market since FEBRUARY 2012, abruptly lost its affiliation on FRIDAY (7/15), replaced with NBC SPORTS RADIO and clearing the way for ESPN to get a new affiliation in DETROIT.
The talk also indicates that DREW LANE, the former "DREW AND MIKE" co-host on WMGC sister Active Rock WRIF, will host afternoons on the new WMGC Sports format. And over the weekend, CRAIN'S DETROIT BUSINESS ran a story on the rumors, drawing a comment from GREATER MEDIA spokesperson HEIDI RAPHAEL, "Like other broadcasters, we are always exploring our options, but we don't have any specific plans at this time."
GREATER MEDIA has been contacted by ALL ACCESS for additional comment. The company denied a change was happening when ALL ACCESS requested comment last week.
