One of the highlights of CONCLAVE 38 was the ROCKWELL AWARDS LUNCHEON, honoring ALBRIGHT, O'MALLEY & BRENNER partner JAYE ALBRIGHT and CONCLAVE Exec. Dir./Emeritus TOM KAY.
As Partner BECKY BRENNER told everyone as she introduced JAYE: "JAYE has shaped the face of radio in a positive way. I would not be where I am without JAYE."
BRAD PAISLEY shared stories via video of his memories about JAYE's impact on radio and how she cared about the artists. Others made tributes to JAYE via video, including partner MICHAEL O'MALLEY who said, "JAYE lives and loves consulting because it offers the opportunity to mentor. We've spent over 25 years working together. TAYLOR SWIFT added, "For over 50 years, JAYE has been championing local radio and being a true music lover."
JAYE then said, "Who do I owe this to? DICK and JANE ALBRIGHT, my parents for their positive attitude and love of music." She then mentioned recently departed consultant RUSTY WALKER. "RUSTY and I were 'frienenemies' and he died too soon. He should've received this award before me."
TOM KAY was then honored with a tribute video showing TOM through the years. TOM mentioned how JAYE had Country stars congratulate her on her award, but because he "worked rock and pop artists, if anyone was asked or invited to speak for me, they are either dead or in jail." TOM went on to thank CONCLAVE Founder DOUG LEE and his chair members, members of the board past and current.
TOM added, "The industry hasn't always been kind to marriage and my wife has been there in good times and bad." During this part his wife was texting and the crowd laughed as TOM good-naturedly kidded with her. He ended with saying, "Please continue to love and respect this industry even when it doesn't love you back. You are an essential part of the listeners' lives."
