TOWNSQUARE MEDIA Active Rock WGRD/GRAND RAPIDS syndicated FREE BEER & HOT WINGS MORNING SHOW turned a TV news expose of a phony panhandler falsely claiming to be a military veteran into an opportunity to both chase off the impostor and raise money for the GRAND RAPIDS HOME FOR VETERANS.
The GRAND RAPIDS PRESS reports that after ABC affiliate WZZM-TV, in its expose of panhandlers, reported on a panhandler named RUDY who admitted that he never, as he claimed, served in the military but panhandling with that excuse was "better than robbing people or doing drugs," the show sent PRODUCER JOE to the scene with a large cardboard sign with the word "LIAR" and an arrow pointing at RUDY. RUDY took off on a bicycle, but JOE wasn't done, returning the following day to "panhandle" donations for the veterans home, taking in $1,085, which WGRD matched to total $2.170
