BRITNEY SPEARS began her two-year, 50-show residency with a bang at the 4,500-seat AXIS THEATRE in the PLANET HOLLYWOOD RESORT & CASINO in LAS VEGAS. Her 24-song, CIRQUE DU SOLEIL-esque show featured outlandish costumes, ample pyrotechnics, an abundance of acrobatics and choreography, as well as a bevy of special effects.
Opening night attracted a slew of celebrities, including KATY PERRY, SELENA GOMEZ, KELLAN LUTZ, MILEY CYRUS (who reports noted sang along to most of show), SIA, DJ PAULY D, ADAM LAMBERT and MARIO LOPEZ -- the latter who was brought on stage for a some slightly risque stage antics.
While the spectacle was certainly admired by those in attendance and in the initial press reaction (which can be read here, here, here and here), some sources noted or reported that a certain amount of SPEARS' vocal work was lip-synched. A handful of scribes dismissed such concerns due to the strenuous demands of an ambitious production, while CAESARS ENTERTAINMENT CORP. entertainment programming exec KURT MELIEN told SF GATE that "SPEARS is using a recording of her voice to help her through the more physically grueling parts of the show, and add an electronic quality to her vocals."
