Confirming his original announcement (NET NEWS, 1/27), CCM+E Classic Hits WMJI (MAJIC 105.7)/CLEVELAND morning icon JOHN LANIGAN called an end to his 50-plus-year radio career -- with over 40 years in CLEVELAND -- this morning with his final show. CLEVELAND.COM quoted LANIGAN signing off for the last time by saying "It's been a great time," telling his on-air colleagues he loved them back, and ending with "Thank you."
LANIGAN final shows this past week included well wishes from a who's who of guests from entertainment, politics, sports and LANIGAN's life. The last show featured filmmakers ANTHONY and JOE RUSSO, former BROWNS coach SAM RUTIGLIANO, comedians GEORGE WALLACE and RICHARD LEWIS, former Mayor JANE CAMPBELL and LANIGAN's original WMJI newsman and co-host, JOHN WEBSTER, on the phone from FLORIDA. LANIGAN's son, JED, his wife and three children flew in from DENVER to witness the final show.
As reported here last FRIDAY (NET NEWS, 3/28), LANIGAN's sidekicks -- JIMMY MALONE, CHIP KULLIK and TRACEY CARROLL -- will continue on the show, along with MARK NOLAN
