CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KALZ-KRZR-A (POWER TALK 96.7)/FRESNO afternoon host BILL MANDERS has received a kidney transplant and was back on the air MONDAY (3/31) to talk about it.
ABC O&O KFSN-TV (ABC 30)/FRESNO reports that MANDERS received the kidney from a 17-year-old girl, LEXI MORRIS, who committed suicide after school recently and whose father was a listener to MANDERS' show and was aware that the host was in need of a kidney transplant. While personal bequests of organs are rare and difficult due to the need for the organ to match the recipient, the match was indeed perfect and MANDERS was able to receive the kidney. Seven people, including MANDERS, received organ donations from the girl.
MANDERS said he would devote his efforts to encouraging organ donation and to help the donor's parents set up a foundation to increase mental health and suicide prevention options for teens in the CENTRAL VALLEY.
