Syracuse's Kevin Fitzgerald Wins STAA's Jim Nantz Award

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY senior KEVIN FITZGERALD has been named the winner of the SPORTSCASTERS TALENT AGENCY OF AMERICA’s JIM NANTZ AWARD for outstanding collegiate sports broadcaster. FITZGERALD is the second SYRACUSE student in three years to win the STAA’s award. He will be honored at the NATIONAL SPORTSCASTERS AND SPORTSWRITERS ASSOCIATION annual awards banquet in SALISBURY, NC on JUNE 9th.
STAA CEO JON CHELESNIK said, “KEVIN finished 18th in last year’s competition. The improvement he’s made in the past 12 months jumped off his reel.”
Judges included CHELESNIK; ESPN’s ADAM AMIN and JOE DAVIS; LEARFIELD SPORTS VP/Broadcast Operations TOM BOMAN; CARSON-NEWMAN play-by-play voice and inaugural NANTZ AWARD winner ADAM CAVALIER; ATLANTA FALCONS broadcaster WES DURHAM; NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY men’s basketball voice and former NANTZ winner ALEX FAUST; and OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY broadcaster PAUL KEELS.
