The drama at GRAND SLAM SPORTS Sports KFNS-A (590 THE MAN) and Talk KXFN-A/ST. LOUIS erupted into an alleged physical encounter, as the station's Pres. DAN MARSHALL claims that KFNS morning host BRIAN MCKENNA hit him in a confrontation FRIDAY (6/6), according to the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH.
MCKENNA was reportedly upset over comments by KXFN afternoon host NICK TRUPIANO who, the P-D reports, made "numerous crude-humor comments" about MCKENNA, including references to MCKENNA's recent cancer diagnosis, and racially-oriented jokes about KFNS host CHARLIE "TUNA" EDWARDS, and came to the station to confront TRUPIANO but was intercepted by OM MIKE CALVIN.
When MARSHALL told CALVIN to fire MCKENNA, CALVIN said that MCKENNA asked to meet with MARSHALL, which led to the alleged attack. Police were called and MCKENNA was arrested, the paper reports.
An article in the P-D last week gave an account of the troubles in the last year at KFNS, including missed payrolls, lawsuits against the company (including two default judgements), a flip to "guy talk" at KFNS and "women's talk" at KXFN followed by a return to Sports at both stations.
