FTC, DOJ OK With Scripps-Journal Deal
September 4, 2014 at 3:58 AM (PT)
The FTC and Department of Justice have signed off on the merger of JOURNAL COMMUNICATIONS and E.W. SCRIPPS CO.
An early termination notice from the FTC indicated WEDNESDAY (9/3) that the agencies had ended their HART-SCOTT-RODINO antitrust review of the deal, which will merge the companies and then split the broadcasting and newspaper properties into separate companies, CINCINNATI-based radio/TV operation E.W. SCRIPPS CO. and MILWAUKEE-based newspaper company JOURNAL MEDIA GROUP.
FCC approval is still required for the deal to proceed.
