SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY-run WJPZ (Z89) held a Strategic Radio Solutions workshop last week co-sponsored by the WJPZ ALUMNI ASSOCIATION and the S.I. NEWHOUSE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC COMMUNICATION.
“We broadcasters have a responsibility to build the farm team and support the industry’s future leaders, and a huge amount of that future talent is at WJPZ," Strategic Radio Solutions’ Partner Hal Rood said.
Rood walked the young broadcasters through the “Rules of Strategy” and then had the students break up into working groups to develop a turn-around strategy for a radio station case study he laid out. Each group presented its plan.
Prior to the Strategic Workshop, iHEARTMEDIA/SALISBURY-OCEAN CITY OM JOSH WOLFF presented the differences between a diary and a PPM market.
“It was a high-energy day talking radio and strategy and the WJPZ students left to go right back to the radio station,” ROOD said. “That is a very bright group of people who will be leaders in the audio business in the not too distant future. They certainly illustrate their claim that WJPZ is the top media classroom in the country.”
