CATHY KONOPNICKI/WSK FAMILY TRUST AC KJIK (MAJIK 100.7)/DUNCAN, AZ is back on the air after an incident in which a staff member allegedly set the studio on fire.
The EASTERN ARIZONA COURIER reports that SCOTT LOUIS WELBAUM was arrested on an arson charge for the early WEDNESDAY morning fire that knocked the station off the air until noontime that day. A man police believe to be WELBAUM is shown on surveillance video making an anonymous 911 call about the fire from a phone at a nearby WALMART. Police say WELBAUM became hostile towards them during questioning, including threatening to throw a police computer after a warrant to search his car was presented, and telling officers that they were going to put an RFID chip in him when they were arresting him.
On the station's website, GM DAN CURTIS said, "We were fortunate to be able to relocate the essential equipment and re-establish our broadcast signal by noon on Wednesday. Our Internet stream is currently down. We will continue to work on our system until everything is up and running normally."
