TAYLOR SWIFT is the key to having a Happy New Year, at least for ABC, which dominated the ratings among the network's three competing music-themed shows.
The country-turned-pop prince helped power ABC's 'DICK CLARK'S NEW YEAR'S Rockin Eve with RYAN SEACREST" to a ratings victory WEDNESDAY night, drawing a 10.7 household rating from 11:30p-1:15a (ET/PT), up 6% over last year. Among adults 18-49, the special, featuring ONE DIRECTION and ELTON JOHN live from BARCLAY'S CENTER in BROOKLYN, posted a 7.3 ratings in markets with LOCAL PEOPLE METERS, a 3% rise over 2013. SEACREST's co-hosts included regulars JENNY McCARTHY and FERGIE in HOLLYWOOD. One of the evening's highlights included a chivalrous SEACREST loaning a freezing SWIFT, who was wearing nothing but a glittery sleeveless halter top, his overcoat to shield against the freezing temperatures in the 20s.
NBC’s "NEW YEAR'S EVE with CARSON DALY" averaged a 4.9 household rating and a 3.1 in 18-49 from 11:30p-12:30a (ET/PT). In households, it was down 6% from last year while in the 18-49 demo the special, featuring LADY GAGA and "The Voice" coaches BLAKE SHELTON, GWEN STAFANI and PHARRELL WILLIAMS, was virtually even with last year’s numbers, the show’s highest in five years. The show drew 5.4 million viewers in the demo, down 17% from last year, but still the second-highest rated over the last seven years.
FOX's new entry, 'PITBULL's NEW YEAR'S Revolution," which was telecast from MIAMI, lagged behind the two perennials, posting a 2.6 household number and a 2.2 in 18-49 from 11p-12:30a (ET/PT). The network's NEW YEAR'S EVE special last year, drew virtually the same numbers with 2.6 and 2.1 rating,
In primetime, "DICK CLARK’s Primetime NEW YEAR'S Rockin’ Eve with RYAN SEACREST" averaged 12.8 million total viewers and a 3.8 in 18-49, up +5% in viewers from last year and up a tenth in 18-49.
