Canadian actor-comedian DON HARRON, who hosted CBC RADIO's national "MORNINGSIDE" show and achieved fame in the U.S. as a cast member and writer on "HEE HAW," died SATURDAY (1/17) at his home in TORONTO at 90. He had been battling cancer.
HARRON became best known to TV audiences as his alter ego "Charlie Farquharson," a rural caricature in a beat-up cap, glasses and moth-eaten cardigan that became a regular on "HEE HAW" for 18 seasons, usually as a newscaster on the fictional KORN Radio. He hosted mornings on CBC RADIO in 1977-82 and hosted his own TV talk show on CTV in 1983-85.
