The CRTC has denied GILL BROADCASTING LTD.'s application for a new FM in WINNIPEG.
GILL sought 92.9 FM with 1,800 watts for an Ethnic-formatted statin targeting 9 cultural groups in 11 languages. DUFFERIN COMMUNICATIONS complained that a new Ethnic FM might harm its own Ethnic CKJS-A/WINNIPEG and would overlap targeting the communities speaking Punjabi/Hindi and Tagalog. The Commission decided that the limited revenue growth of CKJS and the relatively small ethnic communities made the WINNIPEG marker "highly challenged to sustain an additional ethnic station at this time."
