In their latest blog post, the folks at PARAGON STRATEGIES write, "Public Radio is a hotbed for creativity and innovation. Since 2009, there has been nearly a tripling of Triple A, Indie Rock or Americana formats adding to the News/Information, Classical, Jazz, and Variety Public Radio faire. A significant portion of the strong Public Radio ratings Share comes from these new stations. It’s vital to get a read on how these new Public formats are performing around the U.S."
"NIELSEN rolled out their latest “State-of-the-Media-Audio Today: A Focus on Public Radio” series in DECEMBER," continues PARAGON Pres./North American Radio LARRY JOHNSON. "Much to our chagrin, this report presented a relatively shallow view of Public Radio’s performance, especially in comparison to its predecessor, ARBITRON’s “Public Radio Today.”
In NIELSEN’s own words, "with more than 900 rated stations which offer an eclectic mix of news, entertainment, music and cultural programming in markets large and small Public Radio is a unique and relevant part of the lives of 32 million Americans and exists in large part due to the financial support of the listeners"
JOHNSON continues,"Given Public Radio’s impact on overall radio listening, one would hope for a more detailed examination of how the decidedly different Public Radio formats perform so we could build from each format’s strengths and recognize weaknesses."
