Condoldences and best wishes go out to friends and family of ZEKE LOGAN, half of the popular radio show 'DRAKE AND ZEKE IN THE MORNING" on CUMULUS MEDIA Rock WXMX (98.1 THE MAX)/MEMPHIS, who passed away today at 49 after a battle with liver cancer (NET NEWS, 2/4).
"It’s with tremendous sadness that I share that we lost one of the true legends of radio this morning," said 7 TO 8 MEDIA's ADAM GOODMAN, who made the announcement. "'THE DRAKE & ZEKE SHOW' has been a radio fixture in MEMPHIS for more than 20 years and has been the top Rock radio morning show in that market for most of that 20 years."
The DrakeZeke.com site has a link to a GOFUNDME page set up to assist the family.
LOGAN had taken a leave from the show to battle cancer, his on-air partner DRAKE HALL announced on the station last week.
LOGAN had been missing from the morning show for several weeks, with HALL confirming his longtime co-host was diagnosed with the cancer about two months ago.
The team has been a mainstay on local Rock stations for 27 years, routinely being voted best local radio personalities by local publications. Originally an afternoon drive-time show on ROCK 103, DRAKE and ZEKE left the station in DECEMBER 2004 for a morning time slot. HALL had been with the station since 1988 and LOGAN, who started as an intern contributing to HALL's show, was paired with him. After about six months off the air, the pair resurfaced with a 6-10a show on WXMX-F after the station changed formats.
A small, private funeral will be held for family and close friends, with plans for a more public celebration of his life to be announced.
ZEKE is survived by his wife LORI, son ZACK and daughter PIPER.
