COLOFF MEDIA Classic Rock KLKK (103.7 THE FOX)/MASON CITY, IA PD/middays JAMES SHAMAN will not be deported to CANADA according to the MASON CITY GLOBE GAZETTE. SHAMAN had faced deportation to CANADA (NET NEWS 12/30/14) but learned MONDAY that federal prosecutors have agreed to settle his case and allow him to stay in the U.S.
The threat of deportation had been looming over SHAMAN for over three years when a records check at a U.S.-CANADA border crossing alerted officials to a 1993 burglary conviction. Federal law allows legal foreign residents to be deported for a number of criminal convictions. SHAMAN's conviction, at age 19, allowed immigration officials to begin deportation proceedings against him.
SHAMAN told ALL ACCESS, "I don't think it's all sunk in yet beccause this was a big part of my life for the last four years. I hadn't even gone on the air with this until the ALL ACCESS story came out last DECEMBER, which was the first time I brought it up on the air. I'm excited to make plans beyond APRIL 1st, 2015 which was my trial date. Now I can look forward to obtaining my AMERICAN citizenship."
