NBC's celebration of the 40th anniversary of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE will air on SUNDAY night at 8p-11;30p (ET/PT), featuring live sketches from former cast members including EDDIE MURPHY, BILL MURRAY, CHRIS ROCK and WILL FERRELL with clipes and musical performances from PAUL SIMON and PAUL McCARTNEY along with a JIMMY FALLON/JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE comedy homage.
In the last few days alone, the likes of BILLY CRYSTAL, BRADLEY COOPER, EDWARD NORTON, MILEY CYRUS, LOUIS C.K., KEVIN NEALON, ANA GASTEYER, COLIN QUINN, JOE PISCOPO, TIM MEADOWS and WILL FORTE have joined the star-studded lineup.
Show-runner LORNE MICHAELS has been on board for all but five of SNL’s 40 years and invited every host and nearly every cast member from previous seasons to reunite for the anniversary special, including all of the original Not Ready For Prime Time Players, with the exception of the late JOHN BELUSHI and GILDA RATNER.
“We’re doing the most we’ve ever done on an anniversary show,” MICHAELS says. In addition to the anniversary show, there will be a Red-Carpet Special beginning at 7p (EST).
In connection with the show, ROLLING STONE ranked all 141 cast members in order, with JOHN BELUSHI topping the list, followed by a Top 10 of EDDIE MURPHY, TINA FEY, MIKE MYERS, DAN AYKROYD, BILL MURRAY, PHIL HARTMAN, AMY POEHLER, GIILDA RADNER and CHEVY CHASE. At the bottom of the list? ROBERT DOWNEY JR.'s one season at 141, THE MUPPETS at 140 and JIM BREUER at 139, which we think is rather harsh for the goat boy.
