March 5, 2015 at 1:13 PM (PT)
EDISON RESEARCH released its 2015 INFINITE DIAL survey yesterday (NET NEWS, 3/4), which showed a marked increase in audio usage (defined as listening to the streams of AM/FM stations or listening to pureplays), with both monthly and weekly usage up significantly.
LARRY ROSIN notes that weekly usage is growing faster than monthly usage. "This means that users of the technology are getting more habituated to it and that it is becoming a more regular part of people's lives."
The survey shows that about five in every six monthly users also use online radio regularly. Monthly growth has rise from 27% in 2010 to 53% today, while weekly growth has gone from 17% to 44% in the same time period. Weekly/Monthly conversion rates have gone from 63% five years ago to 83% today.
