Viacom's Dauman: We're Not Buying CBS

A reunion of VIACOM and CBS CORP. is not in the cards, if comments by VIACOM CEO PHILIPPE DAUMAN are any indication. BROADCASTING AND CABLE reports that DAUMAN told the DEUTSCHE BANK MEDIA, INTERNET AND TELECOM CONFERENCE on MONDAY that VIACOM has "no intention of buying CBS or any other big company out there.”
Speculation about the fate of CBS has intensified as questions about the health and participation of VIACOM and CBS Chairman SUMNER REDSTONE have arisen, including a possible VIACOM purchase of CBS or a CBS purchase attempt by CBS CEO LES MOONVES.
DAUMAN also rejected speculation that VIACOM might sell PARAMOUNT PICTURES, but he did suggest that the company might participate in purchasing companies if "big changes" in the industry result in further consolidation, "but," he added, "we're not going to be a consolidator."
