It's official: MIAMI POLICE have just the determined that the phone call claiming that there were shootings at the MIAMI BEACH mansion of rapper LIL WAYNE was a hoax, REUTERS reports. Earlier in the day, someone called on a non-emergency line, saying he had shot four people at the home and needed assistance.
The police subsequently set up a perimeter around the residence. During that time, a number of tweets indicated that LIL WAYNE was elsewhere. Soon thereafter, police spokesman ERNESTO RODRIGUEZ said, "We can say for sure it was a hoax … We were unable to locate any victims or subjects."
A police tweet confirmed: "Unfortunately this appears to be a ‘swatting’ call," referring to a trend of police receiving false emergency calls, sometimes targeting celebrities.
