VIACOM has settled a suit brought by former interns at MTV and other properties, reports DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD. The suit was one of several filed against media companies against the practice of interns performing tasks assignable to paid employees without being paid.
The settlement of the class action filed by former MTV intern CASEY OJEDA totals $7,212,500, according to court documents. Covered by the deal are interns who worked for VIACOM in NEW YORK in AUGUST 2007 through JUNE 2013 and in CALIFORNIA from SEPTEMBER 2010 through JUNE 2013. The plaintiffs' attorneys will take $900,000 of the total settlement, about 12.5%.
