About Face: Reports Say ESPN 980/Washington, D.C. Will Launch 'The Man Cave' After All

The WASHINGTON POST's WILL HOBSON and PAUL FARHI are reporting that RED ZEBRA BROADCASTING Sports WTEM-A (ESPN 980)/WASHINGTON will launch the new "THE MAN CAVE" morning show with CHRIS PAUL and former WASHINGTON POST columnist JASON REID after all, starting the show on MONDAY (3/30), two weeks after the show was initially scheduled to debut.
Reports at that time indicated that REID's longtime criticism of the WASHINGTON REDSKINS did not sit well with REDSKINS and RED ZEBRA owner DAN SNYDER and management at the team; PD CHUCK SAPIENZA exited in the wake of the show's seeming cancellation before it could air.
The POST also reports that three sources tell it that someone hoaxed WTEM before the show was to debut the first time by calling and imitating ESPN Pres. JOHN SKIPPER demanding that the show be cancelled to leave ESPN RADIO's "MIKE AND MIKE IN THE MORNING" in place on WTEM instead of moving to sister Sports WSPZ-A (SPORTS RADIO 570). The calls, the sources claim, led to RED ZEBRA CEO RICK CARMEAN cancelling "THE MAN CAVE" until REDSKINS Pres. BRUCE ALLEN called a confused SKIPPER and was ultimately told that the calls were a hoax. The new show, the sources said, was then placed back in action, only to be cancelled again with SAPIENZA departing.
