ROCK IN RIO will partner with MUSIC FOR RELIEF to mark the legendary music festival's upcoming premiere in LAS VEGAS, MAY 8th-9th and MAY 15th-16th, its overall 30th anniversary.
LINKIN PARK’s MIKE SHINODA and ECHOSMITH were on hand at the press conference announcing the tie-in to autograph the first line of guitars to be auctioned off on-site at the ROCK IN RIO USA festival. Signed by artists performing as part of the lineup, the guitars will be auctioned in the festival’s VIP area and online at www.charitybuzz.com/RockInRio.
Proceeds from the auction will support tree planting in the U.S., contributing to the reforestation of more than 350 acres in CALIFORNIA’s SHASTA-TRINITY and ANGELES NATIONAL FORESTS, planting over 62,700 trees, including DOUGLAS-FIR and PONDEROSA pine trees to help restore areas damaged by major fires over the last five years.
In addition, ROCK IN RIO's partnership with MUSIC FOR RELIEF will provide aid to survivors of natural disasters and in taking preventative measures to help mitigate damage caused by such disasters. Founded in 2005 by LINKIN PARK, MUSIC FOR RELIEF organizes benefit concerts, auctions and events with musicians and celebrities to help rebuild communities and provide aid to people in need.
Over the past 30 years, ROCK IN RIO has invested more than $23 million in social-environmental projects in the countries where editions have been held. This commitment enabled the opening of 70 classrooms in RIO DE JANEIRO, where 3,200 children completed primary school. In PORTUGAL, a project was developed for the production of solar power by installing solar panels in schools, mobilizing thousands of youngsters.
Among the artists scheduled to perform over the two consecutive weekends are TAYLOR SWIFT, BRUNO MARS, ED SHEERAN, SAM SMITH, JOHN LEGEND, METALLICA, NO DOUBT, LINKIN PARK, FOSTER THE PEOPLE, GARY CLARK JR., JESSIE J, CHARLI XCX, MAGIC!, JOSS STONE and BIG SEAN.
