DIGITY RADIO Classic Rock KEEZ (Z99)/MANKATO, MN’s BRAD STEELE will attempt to host the world’s longest radio show APRIL 20th-28th. In accordance with GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS, STEELE plans to stay awake for eight days in order to raise money for the local charity, LEISURE EDUCATION FOR EXCEPTIONAL PEOPLE (LEEP).
“I’m not saying it will be easy,” explains STEELE. “I think after I hit halfway, all the volunteers and support will motivate me to keep going. LEEP is a great organization, and if I can give back in a big way, I’ll do it.”
STEELE has had to do large amounts of research in order to qualify for the attempt, and had to submit a physical examination by a licensed practitioner.
“We think he is crazy!” LEEP Outreach Coordinator CATE DeBATES. “BRAD has brought such great enthusiasm to our organization, it’s hard not to believe him when he says he will do something.”
STEELE’s "No Sleep for LEEP" will allow community members to "steele" hours of sleep from STEELE through donations to the organization.
“It’s a fun way to give back, and help put MANKATO on the map,” STEELE said, “I’m not doing this for a certificate, I’m doing it for LEEP and our community.”
Pledges made throughout the broadcast to LEEP will be announced on-air, and pledges of $800 or more will receive live interviews with STEEE during the attempt. Information on making a pledge or volunteering can be found online at www.mankatoleep.org/NoSleep.
The broadcast will begin at 1p (CT) on MONDAY, APRIL 20th. Listeners will be able to view a live stream of the event, participate on social media and listen around the clock. Contact the LEEP Office at (507) 387-5122.
