PENTANGLE songwriter guitarist JOHN RENBOURN has died at the age of 70 from an apparent heart attack, NME reports. RENBOURN was found at his home in HAWICK in the SCOTTISH BORDERS by police on MARCH 27th after he failed to turn up for a gig at THE FERRY in GLASGOW the night before; he was on tour with WIZZ JONES.
RENBOURN started as a solo artist and recorded the album 'BERT AND JOHN' with BERT JANSCH in 1966; a year later he founded influential folk group PENTANGLE with JANSCH, DANNY THOMPSON, JACQUI MCSHEE and TERRY COX. The original lineup released six albums, before splitting 1973. RENBOURN embarked on a solo career and as leader for THE JOHN RENBOURN GROUP; the original lineup of PENTANGLE reunited to tour the U.K. in 2008
