Veteran entertainment attorney DOUG MARK’s MARK MUSIC & MEDIA LAW, founded in 2007 with offices in BEVERLY HILLS and NEW YORK CITY, has partnered with leading music lawyer ELIZABETH GREGORY to open up a NASHVILLE office. Firm principal MARK had the idea for an alliance after witnessing the growth of NASHVILLE as a cosmopolitan destination for entertainment and its burgeoning multi-genre music scene.
The joined firm will comprise seven attorneys, as well as a corporate law “of counsel” relationship, in its three offices. The combined client roster includes top indie labels (EPITAPH, FRIENDS KEEP SECRETS) and rising new artists (PURITY RING, BLOOD ORANGE, LORD HURON), arena-level rock bands ( THE BLACK KEYS, MOTLEY CRUE), ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME members (GUNS N’ ROSES), award-winning recording artists and composers (SARA BAREILLES, DANNY ELFMAN, ATTICUS ROSS, ALEANDRE DESPLAT), top songwriters (BENNY BLANCO, DAVID HODGES), producers (JAY JOYCE, CHRIS ZANE), executives, as well as supermodels, radio hosts (NIKKI SIXX, JASON ELLIS) and best-selling authors.
Commented MARK: “I have long admired ELIZABETH, and that only increased when we worked together on a mutual client in ANDREW BIRD. She has such an eclectic and dynamic clientele, focused both in NASHVILLE and elsewhere, it was easy to conceive that the merger of these two practices would lead to a mutually supportive alliance that will be a force to be reckoned with.”
Added GREGORY: “I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with DOUG and his team and to contribute to a world-class roster of clients that span so many genres and three locations. I had a great time building my practice, but I had maxed out the business I could service on my own and it was time to find the right team to join. This will allow me to take on new challenges.”
MARK's partners and associates include DAVID FERRERIA, DAVID JACOBS, MATT CUTTLER, ERIC MORRIS and now GREGORY. In other firm news, the N.Y. office announces that associate CLARE PATERSON has departed to pursue other endeavors, while JARED TANKEL joins as an associate.
GREGORY is an alumna of DUKE UNIVERSITY, with a USC law degree. In 1995, she became an associate of the L.A.-based entertainment boutique MYMAN, ABELL, FINEMAN, GREENSPAN and LIGHT, where she handled contractual matters for record labels, major and indie label artists, producers, songwriters, licensing and TV and film soundtracks. She launched her own NASHVILLE-based firm in 2001.
