MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO Triple A KCMP (THE CURRENT)/MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL afternoon personality MARY LUCIA will go on leave of absence as of TODAY (4/9); she has been dealing with a stalker for much of the past year.
In a letter to listeners posted on the station’s website, LUCIA said, “My life over the last year has involved a series of restraining orders, seemingly endless calls to 911, the installation of security cameras at home, and police photo ID lineups. I've been constantly looking over my shoulder, dead-bolting doors, and jumping when someone rings my doorbell or my motion lights go off.”
The station says she has received an outpouring of support from her fans and colleagues. In fact, PD JIM MCGUINN as well as personalities BILL DEVILLE and DAVID CAMPBELL will take turns covering LUCIA’s shift during her time away.
According to the MINNEAPOLIS STAR-TRIBUNE, the person in questions is PATRICK H. KELLY, 56, of EDEN PRAIRIE. The radio station had previously sent him a cease-and-desist letter. KELLY was charged last OCTOBER with a single count of stalking, after MINNEAPOLIS authorities say he violated the court order. KELLY is expected to appear in HENNEPIN COUNTY DISTRICT COURT on TUESDAY (4/14). He faces up to 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
