Market veteran JOHN "SPUD" MCCONNELL has exited CATHOLIC COMMUNITY RADIO Religion WQNO-A-K285FF/NEW ORLEANS after only a week of his new show, “SPUD & MO: THE FAMILY BUSINESS,” with wife MAUREEN.
The longtime former crosstown WWL-A-F and WWWL-A (3WL) host told the NEW ORLEANS ADVOCATE that WQNO Pres./GM DAVID DAWSON called him on MONDAY and "pulled the plug on the whole thing," saying that the show "apparently wasn’t religious enough for the station’s management."
“We should have been evangelizing the whole time, but they asked us to be ourselves," MCCONNELL told the ADVOCATE. I’m doing what I did for the last 10 years, what made me a top radio host. We were prepared to expand the religion aspect of the show. You want something different? Let’s sit down and talk about it.”
MCCONNELL exited 3WL in JANUARY (NET NEWS, 1/15); he had hosted at the station since 2013 and previously spent many years on sister WWL-A-F.
