More LPFMs, Fewer AMs In March FCC Station Tally

The FCC has released its latest tallies of the numbers of broadcast stations, showing the number of AM stations shrinking from 4,705 as of DECEMBER 31st to 4,702 as of MARCH 31st but low-power FMs (942 to 1,029) increasing past the 1,000 mark and FM translators and boosters up from 6,249 to 6,312 during the same time period.
FM commercial stations went up slightly, from 6,652 to 6,659, and FM educational stations also increased from 4,075 to 4,081. Broadcast stations of all kinds, including television, showed an increase from 30,592 to 30,601.
