The CANADIAN MEDIA GUILD says that the CBC/RADIO-CANADA has cut 241 jobs in the latest round of layoffs across all departments. "From what we know so far," the GUILD reports, "no part of the country is spared in the new cuts, but newsgathering capacity is most severely impacted with the elimination of a great number of videographer jobs in regional stations."
The cuts, part of the previously-announced five-year plan to cut 1,500 jobs to save C$15 million per year, include some radio jobs; the VICTORIA TIMES-COLONIST reports that CBC RADIO ONE affiliate CBCV/VICTORIA, BC afternoon "ALL POINTS WEST" co-host and Associate Producer KELLY NAKATSUKA and administration staffer AMANDA HEFFELFINGER were let go.
