Fisher House Memorial Day Special: 'A Hero's Best Medicine'
April 29, 2015 at 5:03 AM (PT)
This year's MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND special from FISHER HOUSE FOUNDATION is "A HERO'S BEST MEDICINE," a three-hour show telling more stories of wounded warriors, veterans, and their families.
Included in the show, hosted by CUMULUS News-Talk KARN-F/LITTLE ROCK host DOC WASHBURN, are talks with Marine Cpl. KYLE CARPENTER, who threw himself on a grenade in AFGHANISTAN to save a fellow Marine's life and whose parents stayed for almost three years at a FISHER HOUSE facility during his recovery; Marine Cpl. JAKE SCHICK, who appeared in the film version of "AMERICAN SNIPER"; and a woman who tells how FISHER HOUSE helped her to be the around-the-clock caregiver for her husband, who sustained permanent brain damage in a grenade blast in AFGHANISTAN. FISHER HOUSE provides housing facilities near Veterans Administration and military hospitals to accommodate families of wounded warriors at no charge.
The show is available free without barter or contact. Writer/Producer MARSHALL ADAMS said, "We want to make affiliation as easy as possible for program directors." Separate long-form programming is available from the Foundation for Country stations.
"FISHER HOUSE radio programming is always respectful of stations' donated airtime," ADAMS added. "The show isn't a radiothon or a fundraiser. It's designed to raise awareness of our military, veterans, their families and the tremendous sacrifices they make on our behalf."
